2006 Season Recap
2006 was the innagural race season for Redline Racing. Overall our race season was successful, exciting and not without its challenges.
After acquiring his competition license Sean's first race was in June at the annual Rose Cup races. On the last lap of the morning practice session there was a driver error incident that ended up putting Sean head on into a tire barrier. The damage to Sean's ego was significant but fortunately there was only minimal damage to car and with a full day until qualifying and the race the work began to fix the car. With the car back on the track for qualifying we ended up being 3rd on the grid and captured captured a 2nd place class finish.
After the June race things began to get a little difficult. Maintaining strong runs in both practice and qualifying at subsequent races we were confident that Sean's driving skills were beginning to improve. However, during the race in July mechanical failures started to come into play with two blown engines in one weekend. The remainder of the season showed good finishes but no victories but the season's points were starting to add up and at the end of the season Redline Racing had captured 2nd place in our points division.
Sean wants to thank his beautiful crew cheif Victoria for dealing with a challenging season and keeping everything together. Also big thanks go out to Jerry and Sandy Lundgren for lending their expertise and many parts to get us through the season.

2007 Start Your Engines
Well, 2007 is off to an exciting start. We've got two new sponsors this year - Van Goes Take & Bake and Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival - so we encourage you to check out their web sites to learn more about them. We appreciate the help we've received from all of our sponsors as we wouldn't be on track without them.
Our first race of the year was in March and for half the weekend it was going really well. We had a good shake down run in the practice session and the #16 F500 was running strong and getting faster every lap. We cut the session short just to do some maintenance and make sure all was good.
The afternoon qualifying session started out great with Sean just getting settled back in the car. About halfway through the session Sean started running faster laps when the car had unexpected mechanical issues. The axle sheared off the drive gear right at the start/finish line at about 110 mph and was thrown immediately into 3 flat spins headed for the inside pit wall. With some luck and controlled driving Sean missed the concrete and except for the damage to the car everything was fine.
With the help of our friends and fellow racers Jerry and Sandy Lundgren and Lance Speiring we took apart the rear end and Sean and Jerry were able to machine a new axle and repair the rear end in just under 3 hours so Sean was able to catch a few laps of the race later that afternoon but ultimately did not finish. Feeling frustrated and determined to change the start to the season Sean and Victoria headed home and began working on the car to prepare for the next race six weeks later.
After rebuilding the rear end of the car at home and checking the entire frame Redline Racing headed back to PIR for a test day. The car ran better than ever and had no issues. The team was now ready for the April Regional at PIR.
The April Regional Races were held PIR on April 21-22 and Redline Racing showed up ready to go. Practice for F500 was held mid-morning under pleasant weather conditions and we had a good field of cars out on track. Jerry Lundgren (the champ), Lance Speiring (my rookie partner from 2006), Sean and our newest recruit Brian Russell. Sean ran the fastest lap in practice at 1:27.104, a very good start to the weekend.
Unfortunately, Lance had an incident going into turn 1 and made contact with the outside wall which left his car terminally damaged for the weekend.
Qualifying was late in the day on Saturday and the weather changed to heavy showers all afternoon. The three F5's went out to qualify in terrible conditions. Jerry and Brian gave up after 2 laps due to poor visibility (which was really zero visibility) but Sean was determined to get as good a lap as possible and didn't know that the others had quit the session so he managed 5 laps and described it as frieghtening to say the least. The good news was that Sean managed to get pole position in his class for the Sprint race to be held Sunday morning.
The sprint race was very exciting with an aggressive start among total of 18 cars in the run group. Redline Racing started on F500 pole which was 7th on the overall grid and we had a great start coming out of turn 1 in front of Jerry and Brian. Sean drove away from both Jerry and Brian and won the sprint race posting the fastest lap time of 1:27.354. We later found out that Jerry was having car set up issues which certainly helped Sean achieve his first victory in motorsport racing.
Sunday afternoon brought beautiful weather with temperatures in the low sixties and overcast skies - just about as good as it gets. The win in the first race secured class pole again for Redline Racing but the start of the main race was not as strong as the first race. This time Sean was 11th on the grid and the traffic at turn 1 was crazy with cars overbreaking and overtaking each other Sean got caught up in traffic and Jerry caught the right line through all of the traffic and emerged from turn 1 several positions ahead of Sean and Brian. Several more contact incidents happened in front of Sean during the first half of lap one which allowed Jerry to pull out a huge lead that couldn't be overcome. Sean ran his best personal lap times since learning to drive the F500 race car setting his best lap at 1:26.134. Jerry Lundgren won the Main race setting best lap time of the class at 1:21.884 just .4 off the track record set by Lundgren in 2006 (clearly Jerry had solved his car set up issues). But Redline Racing came away with a 2nd place finish in the main race and between the two races Redline Racing should have a temporary hold on 1st place in our class championship battle with a total of 27 points - just 7 points ahead of the 2nd place points tie of Jerry Lundgren and Lance Speiring. The next race is at PIR May 11 - 13 and will be both a Regional and National race weekend.
